Ekblad, Chatham blank LaSalle, 3-0

The Chatham Maroons used a sparkling performance by Darien Ekblad to take down the LaSalle Vipers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Chatham's 3-0 shutout victory.

The Maroons were paced by Steven Szekesy, who grabbed one goal. Szekesy scored 2:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Nate Pietens provided the assist.

Chatham forced Vipers' netminders to work all game long, totaling 43 shots and forcing 40 saves. Taylor Speed made two stops and Conner MacKinnon made 38. The Maroons stifled LaSalle's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Chatham's defense was surprisingly good. The Maroons gives up 3.0 goals on average per game. Chatham could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Chatham also got a goal from Thomas Eady as well. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Connor Doran, Michael Verboom, Alexander Morgan, and Michael Levesque, who contributed one a piece.

The Vipers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Maroons to score on any of their nine power plays. LaSalle was held below its usual level of production. The Vipers put an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. LaSalle was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Darien Ekblad made 27 saves for Chatham on 27 shots. The Vipers registered zero goals on four power play opportunities.
