Welland rips Fort Erie, 4-1

The Welland Jr. Canadians had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Fort Erie Meteors.

Josh Gervais was all over the ice for Welland, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Gervais scored the first of his two goals at 37 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Welland. Braden Curry provided the assist. Gervais' next tally made the score 3-1 Welland with 9:11 left in the second period. The Jr. Canadians had taken the advantage when Fort Erie's Richard DeMarco got sent off for checking from behind. Chris Langdon picked up the assist.

Welland's Chris McDougall was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. McDougall certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.15 entering the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:11 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Jr. Canadians penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Welland had been spending in the box. The Jr. Canadians excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. Welland's offense rang up 37 shots on the Meteors' net.

Welland additionally got points from Langdon, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Riley Brooks also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Lapine Rob, who had three and Chris Brown and Adam Barron, who each chipped in one.

Fort Erie's offense rang up 32 shots on the Jr. Canadians' net.

The Meteors were led by Nik Passero, who scored the team's only goal. Passero scored 11:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Dallas Ingram provided the assist.

Welland registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Jr. Canadians, Jason Lacroix was ejected from the game. Wyatt Pickrell rejected 33 shots on goal for Fort Erie. The Meteors ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's DeMarco and Kyle Marino were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
