Chatham downs Sarnia in overtime, 6-5 (OT)

The Chatham Maroons pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires on a clutch goal by Michael Verboom.

Although Chatham was up by as many as four goals in the third period, Sarnia kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Legionnaires got to within 5-4 on a goal by Jason Teschke at 16:34 in the third period.

Brennan Feasey was all over the ice for the Maroons, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Feasey scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Chatham. Chatham had taken the advantage when Sarnia's Corey Giffel got sent off for high sticking. Steven Szekesy picked up the assist. Feasey's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Chatham with 19:29 left in the second period. Verboom assisted on the tally.

The Maroons' offense rang up 57 shots on the Legionnaires' net.

Chatham also got points from Verboom, who also registered one goal and one assist. Chatham also got a goal from Connor Doran as well. More assists for Chatham came via Nate Pietens, who had two and Darien Ekblad, Morris Branden, Brayden Hopkins, Eric Palazzolo, Thomas Eady, and Blake Blondeel, who each chipped in one.

Chatham was unable to stop Sarnia from sending pucks towards the net, and the Legionnaires eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Sarnia additionally got points from Brent Sauve, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Steve Farlow also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Jeff King, who had one and Derek D`Andrea, who had three.

Ekblad rejected 29 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Sean Parker recorded 51 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
