Brampton beats Guelph 6-3 as Darrigo gets hat trick

Michael Darrigo lifted the Brampton Bombers to a 6-3 victory with a hat trick against the Guelph Hurricanes.

Darrigo's first goal came 18:52 into the first period. He then added goals at 8:39 into the second and at 17:36 into the third.

Brampton's penalty kill excelled, as the Bombers gave up one goal despite allowing 12 power plays.

Brampton forced Guelph goalie Jason DaSilva to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Bombers' goal total was higher than their season average. Brampton has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Bombers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 56 minutes in penalties during the game.

Brampton also got points from Phil Caputo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Brady Clouthier, who also registered one goal and one assist. Francois Cote also scored for Brampton. In addition, Brampton received assists from Calvin Gomes, who had two and Jacob Hanlon, Jake Gilmour, Reid Jackman, and Brandon Clelland, who each chipped in one.

The defensemen of the Hurricanes were also effective in Brampton's zone, and came away with two goals. Guelph found itself short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

The Hurricanes were helped by Zach McFadden, who tallied two goals. McFadden scored the first of his two goals at 5:29 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Brampton. Matt Nightingale provided the assist. McFadden's next tally made the score 5-3 Brampton with 4:22 left in the third period. Guelph earned a power play opportunity when Eric DiCarlo was put in the box for high sticking. Michael Courvoisier assisted on the tally. Guelph additionally got points from Brock Malatches, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Nico Giannantonio, who had one.

Erik Angeli rejected 23 shots on goal for the Bombers. DaSilva recorded 41 saves for the Hurricanes.
