LaSalle uses shootout to best St. Thomas, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the LaSalle Vipers defeated the St. Thomas Stars in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

LaSalle saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Vipers made the score 3-0 on a goal by Weston Gaul at 12:32 in the second period. St. Thomas evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Luc Knight at 16:56 in the third period.

LaSalle was led by Scott Prier, who registered one goal and one assist. Prier scored 1:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 LaSalle. Korey Morgan also scored for LaSalle. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Evan Makaric, Blake Rutckyj, and Ben Hanus, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars' offense rang up 60 shots on the Vipers' net.

St. Thomas was helped by Dean Pawlaczky, who racked up one goal. Pawlaczky scored 37 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 LaSalle. St. Thomas also got a goal from Mike Iacocca as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Blair Mincer, Scott Mitchell, Martin Kudla, and Reid Oliver, who each chipped in one.

LaSalle's Taylor Speed stopped 57 shots out of the 60 that he faced. The Vipers incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Donald Edwards made 26 saves for the Stars on 29 shots. St. Thomas incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
