Waterloo outlasts Cambridge, 4-2

The Waterloo Siskins and the Cambridge Winter Hawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Waterloo made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Stephen Witiuk's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Witiuk had a great game for the Siskins, netting two goals.

Waterloo's offense rang up 50 shots on Cambridge's net. The Siskins were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes. Waterloo was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages. The defensemen of the Siskins were also effective in the Winter Hawks' zone, and came away with two goals.

Waterloo also got points from Adam Campagnolo, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Christian Mroczkowski also scored for Waterloo. More assists for Waterloo came via Ryan Doucette, who had two and Trevor Atkinson APJ, Brandon Jones, and James Soper, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge forced Waterloo goalie PJ Bridges to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Winter Hawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 44 penalty minutes.

Cambridge was helped by Chris Taylor, who grabbed one goal. Taylor scored 15:43 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Waterloo. Brandon Plourde picked up the assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Mitch Klie as well. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Brennon Pearce, who had one.

Bridges rejected 39 shots on goal for the Siskins. Lucas Machalski recorded 46 saves for the Winter Hawks. Cambridge registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
