McDougall stymies Thorold, Welland wins 3-1Thorold Community Arena Thu, Jan 10, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Welland Jr. Canadians relied on the sparkling performance of Chris McDougall in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Thorold Blackhawks. Welland's penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Canadians gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. Welland was sparked by Chris Langdon, who finished with one goal and one assist. Langdon scored on the power play 15:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Welland. The Jr. Canadians had taken the advantage when Thorold's Dan Chudobiak got sent off for roughing. Brooker Muir assisted on the tally. Welland stifled the Blackhawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Canadians forced Thorold goalie Vinny Merante to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Welland was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 36 penalty minutes. Welland also got points from Muir, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Welland also got a goal from Josh Gervais as well. In addition, Welland received assists from Aaron Beally, Derrik Vannas, Gabe Ruggi, and Braden Curry, who contributed one a piece. The Blackhawks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Thorold averages 3.7 goals per game. The Jr. Canadians were unable to stop the Blackhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Thorold eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Blackhawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays. Thorold was led by Kevin Millejours, who scored the team's only goal. Millejours scored 4:27 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chris McDougall made 36 saves for Welland on 37 shots. Merante recorded 45 saves for the Blackhawks.
