St. Thomas vanquishes Strathroy in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Thomas Stars defeated the Strathroy Rockets in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams.

St. Thomas was led by Michael Lucifora, who had one goal. Lucifora scored 4:44 into the third period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Ryan Hamelin picked up the assist.

The Stars were led by Lucifora, who finished with one goal.

St. Thomas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Strathroy to score on any of its three power plays. The Stars kept the Rockets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dalen Kuchmey made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Scott Mitchell also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Blair Mincer, Ian MacDonald, Martin Kudla, Luc Knight, and Drew Collinson, who contributed one a piece.

Strathroy forced St. Thomas goalie Donald Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

The Rockets were led by Nick Boyer, who racked up one goal and two assists. Boyer scored 16:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. Strathroy also got a goal from Cole Mayo as well. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Tyler Duarte, who had two.

The Stars' Edwards stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. St. Thomas incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Strathroy incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
