Johnson stymies Fort Erie, Niagara Falls wins 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Hunter Johnson helped the Niagara Falls Canucks defeat the Fort Erie Meteors, 4-1.

Niagara Falls' penalty kill excelled, as the Canucks gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Niagara Falls was paced by Cole Vinnai, who registered one goal and one assist. Vinnai scored 11:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls.

Fort Erie was unable to stop the Canucks from sending pucks towards the net, and Niagara Falls eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Others who scored for Niagara Falls included Johnny Curran, who had one and Garrett Gallardi, who had two. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Vito Scaringi, who had two and Sean Farquharson, Cole Langan, and Derek Dallman, who contributed one a piece.

The Meteors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Niagara Falls power plays. Fort Erie forced the Canucks goalie Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

The Meteors were led by Aaron Wanat, who scored the team's only goal. Wanat scored on the power play 13:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. A too many men penalty on Cam Stewart had put Fort Erie on the power play. Austin Carroll provided the assist.

Johnson recorded 33 saves for Niagara Falls. The Canucks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Niagara Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Denis Creighton was ejected from the game. Connor Visca made 36 saves for the Meteors on 40 shots. Fort Erie ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For the Meteors, Dallas Ingram was ejected from the game.
