Cambridge blows out Guelph, 7-1

The Cambridge Winter Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Guelph Hurricanes, and when the final buzzer sounded Winter Hawks emerged with a 7-1 win.

Todd Bannermon quarterbacked Cambridge's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Winter Hawks' win over Guelph.

Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their four power plays. The Winter Hawks forced Guelph goalie Quinton Henry to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Cambridge outdid its season average for goals scored. The Winter Hawks have scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Cambridge also got points from Cameron Pentsa, who also had one goal and one assist, Maxime Lamontagne, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Brennon Pearce, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Chris Taylor, who also registered two goals and two assists. Cambridge also got a goal from Kyle Locke as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Cody Gratton, who had two and Anthony Guido and Trevor Hache, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes were led by Brock Malatches, who scored the team's only goal. Malatches scored 8:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Matt Nightingale assisted on the tally.

Cambridge's Lucas Machalski stopped 17 shots out of the 18 that he faced. The Winter Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Henry recorded 35 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
