Caledonia uses fast start to beat Guelph, 11-1

The Caledonia Corvairs jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Guelph Hurricanes, 11-1.

Fabrizio Ricci had two goals and two assists to lead Caledonia. Ricci scored the first of his two goals at 11:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Brandon Montour picked up the assist. Ricci's next tally made the score 8-1 Caledonia with 13:01 left in the third period. The Corvairs had gotten the advantage when Guelph's Ethan Morrison (AP) was sent off for tripping. Dalton Riley provided the assist.

Caledonia's penalty kill excelled, as the Corvairs gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Caledonia made the Hurricanes' goalies to work without much rest, racking up 36 shots and forcing 25 saves. Jason DaSilva made eight stops and Quinton Henry made 17. The Corvairs stifled Guelph's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Caledonia surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Corvairs average 4.1 goals per game. Caledonia's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Caledonia additionally got points from Spencer Gourlay, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Riley, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Nate Mitton, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Montour, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Marc Silvestri, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jeff Swift also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Connor Murphy, Greg Christmas, Brendan Bomberry, and Matt Quilty, who contributed one a piece and Ryan Blunt, Justin Abraham, and Mitch Brown, who each chipped in two.

Justis Husak made 18 saves for the Corvairs on 19 shots. Caledonia incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Hurricanes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
