Thorold shrugs off penalties, upends Buffalo, 5-1Thorold Community Arena Thu, Jan 03, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Thorold Blackhawks' penalty kill was superb, as Thorold survived multiple penalties to beat the Buffalo Jr. Blades, 5-1. The Blackhawks were paced by Chris Goulet, who registered one goal and one assist. Goulet scored 4:14 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Tanner Pagendam assisted on the tally. Thorold's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Buffalo power plays. Buffalo was unable to stop the Blackhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Thorold eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Thorold additionally got points from Vince Dunn, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Pagendam, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Thorold also got a goal from Owen Sobchak as well. More assists for Thorold came via Mackenzie Mac Avoy, who had two and Brian Brosnan, Kevin Lavoie, Tanner Hildbrant, and Myles Falasca, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blades were led by Matt Corey, who scored the team's only goal. Corey scored 6:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Thorold. Ryan Stayner picked up the assist. Blake Richard recorded 22 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Buffalo's Ian Shorthouse stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Jr. Blades incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
