Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Waterloo Siskins defeated the Elmira Sugar Kings in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Waterloo overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Siskins fell behind 2-1 after a goal by Elmira's Jake Weidner at 10:26 in the second period. Waterloo tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Christian Mroczkowski at 7:54 in the third period. The Siskins pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 22 penalty minutes. Waterloo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Siskins kept the Sugar Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mackenzie Blackwood made 44 saves on 47 shots. Waterloo also got a goal from Trevor Atkinson APJ as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Matthew Mah and James Soper, who contributed one a piece. Elmira forced Waterloo goalie Darren Huck to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Mitch Wright also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Brandon Stewart, who had two and Justin Cooke and Brady Campbell, who each chipped in one. Huck rejected 37 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Sugar Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Elmira, Steven Jakiela was ejected from the game.
