Michaelis' hat trick boosts Cambridge over Brampton, 5-2

The Brampton Bombers could not stop the Cambridge Winter Hawks' Hudson Michaelis, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Michaelis notched his first tally 13:15 into the second period. He then added goals at 3:26 into the third and at 9:22 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 3:50 into the second period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Cambridge excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Cambridge also got a goal from Cody Gratton as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Christian Barnard, Mitch Facey, Aaron Duggan, Maxime Lamontagne, Andrew Coupland, Lawrence Pagnan, and Eric Hackborn, who each chipped in one.

Brampton forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Bombers surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Brampton put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Winter Hawks to score on any of their 12 power plays.

The Bombers were led by Jacob Hanlon, who registered two goals. Hanlon scored the first of his two goals at 3:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brampton. Eric DiCarlo picked up the assist. Hanlon's next tally made the score 2-2 with 5:12 left in the second period. Matt Capicotto assisted on the tally. In addition, Brampton received assists from Connor Andersen, who had one.

Lee Doherty recorded 17 saves for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Cambridge, Trevor Hache was ejected from the game. Erik Angeli made 20 saves for Brampton on 25 shots. Team's Jake Derkach and Kurt Wolff were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
