Fort Erie vanquishes Thorold in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Thorold Community Arena Thu, Dec 20, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fort Erie Meteors defeated the Thorold Blackhawks in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Thorold's shootout goal was scored by Kevin Lavoie. Fort Erie also got a shootout goal from Andy Sturtz.The Meteors overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Fort Erie trailed 3-2 after a power play goal by the Blackhawks' Owen Sobchak at 9:51 in the second period. The Meteors tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kyle Davis at 14:50 in the third period. Fort Erie kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Blake Richard made 29 saves on 33 shots. The Meteors were helped by Jesse Pereira, who registered one goal. Pereira scored 15:00 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fort Erie. Kyle Marino provided the assist. Fort Erie additionally got points from Davis, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Andrew Reis also scored for Fort Erie. More assists for Fort Erie came via Jesse Parker, Carson Johnstone, Anthony Passero, and Nik Passero, who each chipped in one. The Blackhawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fort Erie to score on any of its three power plays. The Meteors were unable to stop Thorold from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blackhawks eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Thorold was helped by Tanner Pagendam, who finished with one goal. Pagendam scored 6:42 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Ed Creighton assisted on the tally. Thorold also got a goal from Brian Brosnan as well. In addition, Thorold received assists from Matt Pizzo, Tanner Hildbrant, Ben Hughes, Adrian Copeland, and Mark Arnone, who contributed one a piece. Wyatt Pickrell made 35 saves for Fort Erie on 38 shots. The Meteors ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Fort Erie ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Fairgrieve was ejected from the game. The Blackhawks totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Thorold, Arnone was ejected from the game.
