LaSalle rips Sarnia, 9-3

The LaSalle Vipers were firing on all cylinders against the Sarnia Legionnaires, and when the final buzzer sounded Vipers emerged with a 9-3 win.

Graeme Brown was all over the ice for LaSalle, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Brown scored 15:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 LaSalle. Dylan Denomme assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:53 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The the Vipers penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. LaSalle had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Vipers made Legionnaires' netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 39 shots and forcing 30 saves. Sean Parker made eight stops and Andrew Ganter made 22. LaSalle bested its season scoring average. This season, the Vipers average 3.9 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

LaSalle also got points from Korey Morgan, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Denomme, who also registered one goal and one assist, Eric Noel, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Dylan Seguin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Rio Anzolin also scored for LaSalle. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Ben Hanus, who had two and Chad Shepley, Zack Percy, Richard Villani, and Brendan McCann, who contributed one a piece.

Sarnia forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Legionnaires surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Sarnia's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Legionnaires were led by Jeff King, who registered one goal and one assist. King scored 6:53 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nathan Mater picked up the assist. Sarnia also got a goal from Steve Farlow as well. More assists for Sarnia came via Jeff Bauer and Davis Boyer, who each chipped in one.

Conner MacKinnon recorded 26 saves for LaSalle. The Vipers registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Team's Evan Makaric and Blake Jones were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Sarnia registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Legionnaires, Bauer and Thomas Moxley were ejected from the contest.
