Kitchener erases deficit to stun Guelph, 5-4

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Kitchener Dutchmen battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Kitchener let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Dutchmen took a 1-0 advantage on a power play goal by Tyler Hoffman at 4:48 in the first period. Kitchener found itself down 4-2 after Guelph's Matt Lippa put the puck home at 7:56 in the third period. After tying things up at 4-4 on a goal by Keegan Calder at 14:28 in the third, the Dutchmen got the game-winner from Calder at 19:54 in the third period.

Calder had a great game for Kitchener, netting two goals.

The Dutchmen stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Kitchener's offense rang up 43 shots on Guelph's net.

Kitchener also got points from Brett Clampitt, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Kitchener also got a goal from Jordan Delaurier as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Clayton Greer, who had two and Matt Guild, Philip Moser, Logan Schmidt (APM), Ryo Kobayashi, Matt Pappineau, and Chris Eckert, who contributed one a piece.

The Hurricanes kept the Dutchmen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Williams made 33 saves on 37 shots.

Guelph additionally got points from John Najafi, who also registered one goal and one assist. Matt Nightingale also scored for Guelph. In addition, Guelph received assists from Ben Rolefson and Brett Farrelly (APM), who each chipped in one and Brock Malatches and Craig Martini, who contributed two a piece.

Kitchener incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jason DaSilva recorded 38 saves for Guelph. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
