Kitchener beats Stratford 5-1 as Grant gets hat trick

Keli Grant lifted the Kitchener Dutchmen to a 5-1 victory with a hat trick against the Stratford Cullitons.

Grant notched his first tally 14:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:42 into the second and at 9:59 into the third.

Stratford was stymied by Kitchener netminder Marc Williams, who stopped 36 shots during the victory. Williams managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.37 prior to the game.

The Dutchmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Stratford power plays.

Kitchener also got a goal from Philip Moser as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Keegan Calder, who had two and Jesse Young, Logan Schmidt (APM), Ty Learn, John Divo, and Matt Pappineau, who contributed one a piece.

The Cullitons did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Stratford averages 3.5 goals per game. The Cullitons' offense rang up 37 shots on Kitchener's net. Stratford's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Cullitons finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Stratford was led by Jared Culliton, who scored the team's only goal. Culliton scored 6:56 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Shane O Brien picked up the assist.

The Dutchmen incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nick Caldwell rejected 23 shots on goal for the Cullitons.
