Kitchener beats Waterloo 4-3 after comeback scare

The Kitchener Dutchmen survived a determined comeback attempt by the Waterloo Siskins on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Matt Guild put Kitchener up 4-1 in the third period, but Waterloo pulled to within one on Christian Mroczkowski's tally 12:25 into the third period.

The Dutchmen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Siskins to score on any of their five power plays. Kitchener got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

The Dutchmen were led by Matt Pappineau, who finished with one goal and one assist. Pappineau scored 3:09 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener. Kitchener also got points from Guild, who also registered one goal and one assist and Harrison Scarfonne, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Clayton Greer also scored for Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Jordan Delaurier, Ryo Kobayashi, and Chris Eckert, who contributed one a piece.

Waterloo additionally got points from Ryan Doucette, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Jordan Cale as well. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Trevor Atkinson APJ, who had two and PJ Bridges and Matthew Mah, who each chipped in one.

Marc Williams made 27 saves for Kitchener on 30 shots. The Dutchmen incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Waterloo's Bridges stopped 18 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Siskins incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
