Waterloo penalty kill dominates in 6-3 defeat of Guelph

The Guelph Hurricanes failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Waterloo Siskins shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-3.

Waterloo put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Guelph to score on any of its seven power plays. The Siskins' offense rang up 48 shots on the Hurricanes' net. Waterloo was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 27 penalty minutes.

The Siskins were helped by Christian Mroczkowski, who tallied two goals. Mroczkowski scored the first of his two goals at 3:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. Connor McLoughlin assisted on the tally. Mroczkowski's next tally made the score 6-1 Waterloo with 10:10 left in the third period. Danny Hanlon picked up the assist. Waterloo also got points from James Soper, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Adam Campagnolo, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Ryan Doucette, who also had one goal and one assist. Waterloo also got a goal from Keigan Goetz as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Andrew Brubacher, who had two and Michael Ryan, Brandon Jones, Blake Hetherington, and Stephen Witiuk, who contributed one a piece.

Guelph could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hurricanes were helped by Craig Martini, who racked up one goal and one assist. Martini scored 4:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Guelph additionally got points from Patrick Kudla, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Matt Lippa also scored for Guelph. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Nico Giannantonio and Blair McIntosh, who each chipped in one.

Darren Huck rejected 27 shots on goal for Waterloo. The Siskins registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Cruickshank was ejected from the game. Jason DaSilva recorded 42 saves for Guelph.
