St. Marys pulls away in second, rolls over Sarnia, 7-3

The St. Marys Lincolns scored five goals in the second period to pull away from the Sarnia Legionnaires and clinch a 7-3 win.

St. Marys racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game the Lincolns had been spending in the box. St. Marys forced Sarnia's goaltenders to work in net, ripping 47 shots and forcing 40 saves. Andrew Ganter made 22 stops and Sean Parker made 18. The Lincolns found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. St. Marys has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Lincolns were led by Mike Mandarelli, who had two goals. Mandarelli scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:24 into the second period to make the score 4-1 St. Marys. A high sticking penalty on Steve Farlow had put St. Marys on the power play. Kyle Flemington picked up the assist. Mandarelli's next tally on the power play made the score 5-1 St. Marys with 8:55 left in the second period. Owen MacDonald assisted on the tally. St. Marys also had goals scored by Dean Pawlaczky, who had two and Tyson Baker, Mike Siddall, and Sean Consitt, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Jonathan Rizzo, who had two and Braydon Blight, Kurtis Lavis, Calvin Penney, David Sproat, and Marcus Gverzdys, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Sarnia was helped by Jeff King, who tallied one goal. King scored on the power play 27 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Farlow picked up the assist. Sarnia also got points from Farlow, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Sarnia also got a goal from Davis Boyer as well. More assists for Sarnia came via Jason Teschke, Bobby King, Jeff Bauer, and Thomas Moxley, who contributed one a piece.

Jake Theut rejected 24 shots on goal for the Lincolns. St. Marys registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Lincolns, Siddall was ejected from the game. The Legionnaires registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Jeff Paulley and Nathan Mater were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
