Strathroy's comeback falls short, Leamington wins 5-3

The Leamington Flyers, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Leamington and clinched a 5-3 victory.

The Flyers led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Leamington's Jacob McGhee's scored at 15:38 in the second period to put the Flyers up 4-1.

Brett Langlois was all over the ice for Leamington, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Langlois scored 3:14 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Leamington. Daniel McIntyre picked up the assist.

The Flyers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 17 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:42 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Leamington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Strathroy Rockets to score on any of their six power plays. The Flyers forced Strathroy goalie Gordie Weiss to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The defensemen of Leamington were also effective in the Rockets' zone, and came away with two goals.

Leamington also got a goal from David Dalby as well. More assists for Leamington came via Jordan Ryan, Eric Leardi, and Dakota Olvin, who each chipped in one.

Strathroy kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Mancina made 38 saves on 41 shots.

The Rockets were led by Chase Thornton, who registered two goals. Thornton scored the first of his two goals at 19:22 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Leamington. Thornton's next tally made the score 4-3 Leamington with 18:07 left in the third period. Tyler Coleman assisted on the tally. Wes Baker also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Brett Dalton and Blake O`Neill, who contributed one a piece.

Leamington registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Langlois was ejected from the game. Gordie Weiss made 34 saves for Strathroy on 39 shots. The Rockets ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Strathroy ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Max Naus was ejected from the game.
