Cambridge completes comeback, beats Waterloo, 4-3

The Waterloo Siskins could not hold down the Cambridge Winter Hawks, and Winter Hawks erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Cambridge let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Winter Hawks took a 3-2 advantage on a goal by Alex Bottigoni at 15:21 in the second period. Cambridge went down 2-0 after Waterloo's Christian Mroczkowski put the puck home at 8:16 in the first period. After knotting things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Trevor Atkinson APJ at 8:17 in the third, the Winter Hawks got the game-winner from Maxime Lamontagne at 16:53 in the third period.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 48 penalty minutes.

The Winter Hawks kept the Siskins' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Huck made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Cambridge also got points from Hudson Michaelis, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Bottigoni, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cambridge also got a goal from Cody Gratton as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Christian Barnard, Aaron Duggan, Cameron Pentsa, and Andrew Coupland, who each chipped in one.

Waterloo forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Siskins had been averaging 27.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Jordan Cale also scored for Waterloo. Other players who recorded assists for Waterloo were Evan Buehler, James Soper, Jacob Bonin, and Danny Hanlon, who contributed one a piece.

Lucas Machalski recorded 27 saves for Cambridge. The Winter Hawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Brennon Pearce and Trevor Hache were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Waterloo registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the Siskins, Keigan Goetz was ejected from the game.
