Cambridge downs Stratford, 5-2

Despite two points from Shane O Brien, the Stratford Cullitons lost to the Cambridge Winter Hawks, 5-2.

In the losing effort, Stratford was led by O Brien, who tallied two goals. O Brien scored the first of his two goals at 8:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Jake Pleon picked up the assist. O Brien's next tally made the score 2-2 with 9:50 left in the second period. Brett Heaman provided the assist.

Cambridge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Stratford power plays. The Cullitons were unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Chris Taylor, who had one goal. Taylor scored 10:48 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cambridge. Andrew Coupland assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Cambridge included Maxime Lamontagne, who had two and Brandon Plourde and Cody Gratton, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Christian Barnard and Trevor Hache, who each chipped in one.

Stratford stifled Cambridge's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cullitons' offense rang up 36 shots on the Winter Hawks' net.

Cambridge's Lucas Machalski stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Winter Hawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Nick Caldwell recorded 32 saves for Stratford. The Cullitons incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
