LaSalle falls to St. Thomas in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The St. Thomas Stars' Martin Kudla scored 2:21 into overtime to beat the LaSalle Vipers, 5-4 (OT).

St. Thomas came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stars fell behind 4-2 after a goal by LaSalle's Dylan Denomme at 9:51 in the second period. St. Thomas knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Drew Collinson at 9:01 in the third period.

Collinson had two goals and two assists to lead the Stars. Collinson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:37 into the second period to make the score 4-3 LaSalle. St. Thomas earned a power play opportunity when Spencer VanBuskirk was put in the box for roughing. Braden Hellems picked up the assist. Collinson's next tally on the power play made the score with 10:59 left in the third period. Colin Mooney assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:16 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four LaSalle power plays.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Kudla, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Luc Knight also scored for St. Thomas. More assists for St. Thomas came via Scott Mitchell, Trevor Abbott, and Chris Maton, who contributed one a piece.

The Vipers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. LaSalle surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game.

LaSalle also got a goal from Blake Jones as well. Other players who recorded assists for LaSalle were Evan Makaric, Zack Percy, Eric Noel, Dylan Seguin, and Brendan McCann, who each chipped in one.

Donald Edwards rejected 21 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. Team's Cam Garrow and Maton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Taylor Speed recorded 22 saves for the Vipers. For LaSalle, Percy and McCann were ejected from the contest.
