Kuchmey leads Strathroy to shutout victory over St. Marys

Dalen Kuchmey made 38 saves to complete the shutout and led the Strathroy Rockets to a 4-0 win against the St. Marys Lincolns.

Strathroy pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Rockets excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Strathroy's defense was surprisingly good. The Rockets allow 2.9 goals per game. Strathroy forced St. Marys goalie Craig Wood to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

The Rockets were helped by Stuart King, who finished with one goal. King scored on the power play 17:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy. Strathroy had gained a power play chance when Brandon Lamothe was whistled for slashing. Blake O`Neill assisted on the tally. Strathroy also had goals scored by Matthew Watson, who had one and Adam Vandersluis, who had two. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Nick Boyer, who had three and Jordan DaSilva, Kurtis Sander, and Max Naus, who contributed one a piece.

The Lincolns forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. St. Marys surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Lincolns' offense operated below they season average. St. Marys puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Rockets were unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Strathroy registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Craig Wood made 43 saves for the Lincolns on 47 shots. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Flemington was ejected from the game.
