Elmira survives Listowel comeback, wins 3-2

The Elmira Sugar Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Listowel Cyclones on the way to a 3-2 win.

Elmira took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Listowel storm back on a Caleb Cameron goal 19:09 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Sugar Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Elmira gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Sugar Kings forced the Cyclones goalie Drew Reinhardt to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Elmira could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Steven Jakiela, who tallied one goal. Jakiela scored on the power play 15:59 into the third period to make the score Elmira. Elmira had gained a power play chance when Mac Nichol was whistled for head contact. Adam Brubacher assisted on the tally. Elmira additionally got points from Brady Campbell, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jake Weidner, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Elmira came via Craig Johnson, Zac Coulter, and Brandon Stewart, who each chipped in one.

Listowel kept the Sugar Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hayden Neuman made 32 saves on 34 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Brett Thompson, Patrick Bell, and Scott Pawson, who contributed one a piece.

Elmira registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Sugar Kings, Brodie Whitehead was ejected from the game. The Cyclones' Reinhardt stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Listowel incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Cyclones ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Sayles was ejected from the game.
