Sarnia vanquishes Leamington in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Sarnia Legionnaires defeated the Leamington Flyers in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Leamington got a shootout goal from Alex Seguin. Sarnia's other shootout goal was scored by Jason Teschke.

The Legionnaires overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Sarnia was down 2-0 after a goal by the Flyers' Seguin at 19:50 in the first period. The Legionnaires tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Bobby King at 17:03 in the third period.

Sarnia stifled Leamington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Flyers were unable to stop the Legionnaires from sending pucks towards the net, and Sarnia eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

The Legionnaires were helped by Davis Boyer, who finished with one goal. Boyer scored 15:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Leamington. Teschke picked up the assist. More assists for Sarnia came via Derek D`Andrea and Tyler Prong, who contributed one a piece.

Leamington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Sarnia to score on any of its three power plays. The Flyers kept the Legionnaires' goalie busy throughout the game, and Sean Parker made 39 saves on 41 shots.

Leamington was helped by Chris Scott, who grabbed one goal. Scott scored 8:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Alex Friesen provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were J.P. Grineau, Nathan Opblinger, and Dakota Olvin, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Matt Mancina rejected 36 shots on goal for the Flyers. Leamington incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
