Kitchener survives Guelph comeback, wins 5-4

The Guelph Hurricanes tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Kitchener Dutchmen held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Dylan Bursey put Kitchener up 5-3 in the third period, but Guelph pulled to within one on John Najafi's tally 18:36 into the third period.

The Hurricanes were unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Dutchmen were led by Keli Grant, who racked up three goals. Kitchener also got points from Brett Clampitt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Andrew Boer, Jesse Young, Harrison Scarfonne, Philip Moser, Keegan Calder, John Divo, Tyler Hoffman, and Chris Eckert, who each chipped in one.

Guelph forced Kitchener goalie Jack Moylan to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Hurricanes' goal total was higher than their season average. Guelph averages 1.7 goal per game.

Brock Malatches also scored for Guelph. More assists for Guelph came via Patrick Kudla, who had two and Nico Giannantonio, Matt Nightingale, Daniel Brennen, and Blair McIntosh, who contributed one a piece.

The Dutchmen's Moylan stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Kitchener incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Marcus Nepinak made 26 saves for the Hurricanes on 31 shots. Guelph incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nightingale was ejected from the game.
