Elmira rides Blackwood to victory over Caledonia, 4-1

The Elmira Sugar Kings relied on the sparkling performance of Mackenzie Blackwood in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Caledonia Corvairs.

Caledonia's power play was ineffective against Elmira's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Sugar Kings were paced by Brandon Stewart, who finished with one goal. Stewart scored 11:39 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Brady Campbell provided the assist.

Elmira stifled the Corvairs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 50 shots on Caledonia's net. Elmira was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Elmira additionally got points from Campbell, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Zac Coulter also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Matt Sheick, who had two and Adam Brubacher and James Mildon, who contributed one a piece.

The Corvairs were held below their usual level of production. Caledonia averages 4.3 goals per game. The Sugar Kings were unable to stop the Corvairs from sending pucks towards the net, and Caledonia eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Corvairs were led by Matt Quilty, who scored the team's only goal. Quilty scored 1:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Caledonia. Connor Murphy assisted on the tally.

Elmira's Blackwood stopped 37 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Sugar Kings registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Justis Husak rejected 46 shots on goal for Caledonia. The Corvairs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
