St. Marys uses shootout to best St. Thomas, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the St. Marys Lincolns defeated the St. Thomas Stars in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. St. Thomas' shootout goal was scored by Martin Kudla. St. Marys' other shootout goal was scored by Calvin Penney.

The Lincolns overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. St. Marys was down 4-3 after a goal by the Stars' Kudla at 4:16 in the third period. The Lincolns tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mike Siddall at 12:18 in the third period.

Siddall had two goals to lead St. Marys to victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:47 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

St. Thomas was unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

St. Marys also got points from Sean Consitt, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kurtis Lavis also scored for St. Marys. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Reid Oliver, who had three and Tyler Bryson and Jonathan Rizzo, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars forced the Lincolns goalie Devin Golets to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Mike Iacocca, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Ryan Hamelin as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Colin Mooney, who had two and Trevor Abbott and Drew Collinson, who each chipped in one.

Golets recorded 43 saves for St. Marys. The Lincolns totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. St. Marys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Flemington was ejected from the game. Donald Edwards rejected 28 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For St. Thomas, Iacocca was ejected from the game.
