Listowel uses shootout to best Caledonia, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Listowel Cyclones defeated the Caledonia Corvairs in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Caledonia got a shootout goal from Matt Quilty. Listowel's other shootout goal was scored by Caleb Cameron.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:49 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Cyclones' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Caledonia power plays. The Corvairs were unable to stop Listowel from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cyclones eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Listowel was helped by Colten Pickett, who registered one goal. Pickett scored 14:34 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Listowel. Dylan Sayles picked up the assist. Listowel also got a goal from Cameron as well. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Tyler Crawford, Scott Pawson, and Ben Shelley, who each chipped in one.

Caledonia put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cyclones to score on any of their four power plays. The Corvairs were held below their usual level of production. Caledonia puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game. The Corvairs forced Listowel goalie Drew Reinhardt to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Caledonia was led by Brandon Montour, who racked up one goal and one assist. Montour scored 14:58 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Connor Murphy provided the assist. Mitch Brown also scored for Caledonia. More assists for Caledonia came via Nate Mitton and Quilty, who contributed one a piece.

The Cyclones' Reinhardt stopped 39 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Listowel ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. For the Cyclones, Chris Gillman was ejected from the game. Justis Husak recorded 30 saves for the Corvairs. Caledonia ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. The Corvairs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Simon Blythe was ejected from the game.
