Stoney Creek survives penalties, beats Buffalo, 5-2

The Buffalo Jr. Blades failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Stoney Creek Warriors shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Stoney Creek was led by Dave Eccles, who registered one goal. Eccles scored on the power play 16:09 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Stoney Creek. The Warriors had gained a power play chance when Josh Gordon was whistled for tripping. Jake Milligan assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:36 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stoney Creek penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Warriors had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. Stoney Creek's offense rang up 36 shots on Buffalo's net. The Warriors got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Stoney Creek also got points from Blake Luscombe, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Alexander Zaccaria, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Marco Mattina as well. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Jake Bain, Cordell James, Wesley St. Amand, and Elais Hazlprodromu, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Blades racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 23.0 minutes per game Buffalo had been spending in the box.

The Jr. Blades were helped by Kennedy Monaco, who grabbed one goal. Monaco scored on the power play 17:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo. An interference penalty on Harry Polyoka had put Buffalo on the power play. Brian FryAPJ picked up the assist. Tom Hanna also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from John Ferris, who had one.

Alexander Brooks-Potts rejected 21 shots on goal for Stoney Creek. The Warriors registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Stoney Creek, James was ejected from the game. Ian Shorthouse recorded 31 saves for the Jr. Blades. Buffalo registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Jr. Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dan DeFranco was ejected from the game.
