Bonin nets hat trick, leads Waterloo to 6-2 win over Fort Erie

Jacob Bonin lifted the Waterloo Siskins to a 6-2 victory with a hat trick against the Fort Erie Meteors.

Bonin notched his first tally 3:23 into the second period. He then added goals at 15:03 into the second and at 7:09 into the third.

Waterloo made Fort Erie's netminders to work in net, finishing with 50 shots and forcing 44 saves. Connor Visca made 29 stops and Wyatt Pickrell made 15. The Siskins surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Waterloo averages 3.9 goals per game. The Siskins could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Waterloo additionally got points from Ryan Doucette, who also grabbed two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Stephen Witiuk, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Brandon Jones, who had two and Trevor Atkinson APJ, Jacob Ariss, Matthew Mah, and Adam Campagnolo, who each chipped in one.

The Meteors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Fort Erie's offense rang up 45 shots on Waterloo's net.

The Meteors were led by Carson Johnstone, who finished with two goals. Johnstone scored the first of his two goals at 3:13 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Richard DeMarco assisted on the tally. Johnstone's next tally made the score 3-2 Waterloo with 12:45 left in the second period. Fort Erie earned a power play opportunity when Ariss was put in the box for roughing. Mike Boles picked up the assist. More assists for Fort Erie came via Dallas Ingram and Andrew Reis, who contributed one a piece.

PJ Bridges rejected 43 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Voigt was ejected from the game. The Meteors totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Fort Erie, Jonathan England and Reis were ejected from the contest.
