Brown leads Welland over Cambridge, 6-2

Behind a great game by Chris Brown, who had one goal and three assists, the Welland Jr. Canadians defeated the Cambridge Winter Hawks, 6-2.

Brown scored 13:08 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jason Lacroix picked up the assist. Brown dished an assist on Riley Brooks' goal that made the score 3-1 Welland at 19:36 into the second period. He then added assists on Ryan Migliaccio's goal at 41 seconds into the third and on Daryl Thomson's goal at 13:25 into the third.

Welland's penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Canadians gave up one goal despite allowing 11 power plays.

Welland's offense rang up 39 shots on Cambridge's net. The Jr. Canadians were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 78 penalty minutes.

Welland also got points from Migliaccio, who also registered one goal and one assist and Thomson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Drake Lynds also scored for Welland. In addition, Welland received assists from Adam Mataya, Cole McKnight, Matt Gillard, Mack Seebach, and Chris Langdon, who each chipped in one.

The Winter Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 64 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cambridge was helped by Chris Taylor, who grabbed one goal. Taylor scored on the power play 11:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. The Winter Hawks had taken the advantage when Welland's McKnight got sent off for cross checking. Cody Gratton assisted on the tally. Cambridge also got a goal from Aaron Duggan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Mitch Klie and Cameron Pentsa, who contributed one a piece.

The Jr. Canadians' Chris McDougall stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Welland registered three goals on 11 power play opportunities. Lee Doherty recorded 33 saves for Cambridge.
