Sarnia uses shootout to best Stoney Creek, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Sarnia Legionnaires defeated the Stoney Creek Warriors in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Stoney Creek's power play was ineffective against Sarnia's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Legionnaires racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Sarnia surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. The Warriors were unable to stop the Legionnaires from sending pucks towards the net, and Sarnia eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Legionnaires were led by Davis Boyer, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Boyer scored short handed 30 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-2 Sarnia. Jeff Bauer assisted on the tally. Jason Teschke also scored for Sarnia. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Allen Chandler, Derek D`Andrea, and Bobby King, who contributed one a piece.

Stoney Creek excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Warriors' offense rang up 31 shots on Sarnia's net.

Stoney Creek was helped by Blake Luscombe, who racked up one goal and one assist. Luscombe scored 14:00 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Jake Bain provided the assist. Stoney Creek also got points from Bain, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Ryan Lewis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Parsa Monsef and Cordell James, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Ganter rejected 28 shots on goal for the Legionnaires. For Sarnia, Nathan Mater was ejected from the game. Brendan Polasek recorded 27 saves for the Warriors. Stoney Creek incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
