London squeaks by Strathroy, 5-3

The game between the London Nationals and the Strathroy Rockets was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end London emerged with a 5-3 win.

The Nationals gained the winning advantage on a goal by Keaton Ratcliffe 13:16 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

London pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 21 penalty minutes.

The Nationals were paced by Blake Thomas, who registered one goal. Thomas scored 14:13 into the second period to make the score 4-2 London. Noah Schwartz assisted on the tally.

London kept Strathroy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dalen Kuchmey made 38 saves on 43 shots.

London also got points from Schwartz, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Paul Hopkins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Ratcliffe, who also racked up one goal and one assist. London also got a goal from Ryan Tuffin as well. More assists for London came via Jonathan Sims and Scott Lombardi, who contributed one a piece and Derek Todosichuk and Aaron Dartch, who each chipped in two.

The Nationals were unable to stop the Rockets from sending pucks towards the net, and Strathroy eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. The Rockets got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Strathroy was helped by Wes Baker, who tallied one goal. Baker scored 4:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brett Dalton picked up the assist. Matthew Watson also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Trevor Dulong, who had two and Chase Thornton and Nick Boyer, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor Edwards recorded 40 saves for London. The Nationals registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. London ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Paxton Leroux was ejected from the game. The Rockets totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For Strathroy, Adam Vandersluis was ejected from the game.
