Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Elmira Sugar Kings defeated the Stratford Cullitons in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Elmira got a shootout goal from Brady Campbell.The Sugar Kings came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Elmira trailed 3-1 after a short handed goal by Stratford's Jake Ryan at 7:25 in the second period. The Sugar Kings knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Mitch Wright at 17:02 in the third period. Wright had a great game for Elmira, netting two goals. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:20 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Sugar Kings forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and four majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game Elmira had been spending in the box. The Sugar Kings forced the Cullitons goalie Nicholas Caldwell to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Elmira additionally got points from Campbell, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Jake Weidner, who also racked up one goal and one assist.
