Strathroy vanquishes Chatham in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Strathroy Rockets defeated the Chatham Maroons in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Strathroy came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Rockets was down 3-1 after a short handed goal by Chatham's Michael Verboom at 11:11 in the second period. Strathroy knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nick Boyer at 14:24 in the second period.

The Rockets managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Strathroy wound up below its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Rockets' offense rang up 40 shots on the Maroons' net.

Strathroy also got a goal from Trevor Dulong as well. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Tyler Duarte, Shawn Grogan, Brett Dalton, Kurtis Sander, Ryan Field, and Wes Baker, who contributed one a piece.

Strathroy was unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Chatham was helped by Steven Beenackers, who finished with one goal. Beenackers scored 3:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Chatham. Jay Ritchie assisted on the tally. Chatham additionally got points from Alexander Morgan, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Chatham came via Nate Pietens and Evan Mascaro, who each chipped in one.

The Rockets' Dalen Kuchmey stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Strathroy registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Darien Ekblad rejected 36 shots on goal for the Maroons. Chatham incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
