Klie's goals lift Cambridge to 5-0 victory over Brampton

The Cambridge Winter Hawks relied on the scoring touch of Mitch Klie, who netted two goals, to beat the Brampton Bombers, 5-0.

Klie scored on the power play at 6:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge and again while 11:29 into the second to make the score 4-0 Cambridge.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 41 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:09 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Winter Hawks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its six power plays. Cambridge's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Winter Hawks average 2.5 goals allowed per game. The defensemen of Cambridge were also effective in the Bombers' zone, and came away with two goals.

Cambridge also had goals scored by Cameron Pentsa, who had one and Trevor Hache, who had two. More assists for Cambridge came via Anthony Guido, who had three, Maxime Lamontagne and Todd Bannermon, who contributed one a piece, and Cody Gratton and Chris Taylor, who each chipped in two.

Brampton forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The Bombers surpassed its season average of 32.0 penalty minutes per game. Brampton could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Bombers average 3.1 goals per game.

Lucas Machalski made 21 saves for the Winter Hawks on 21 shots. Cambridge registered four goals on 12 power play opportunities. For the Winter Hawks, Pentsa and Lamontagne were ejected from the contest. Brampton's starting goalie, Erik Angeli, made six saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Bryan Raymond, who stopped 11 shots. Team's Matt Capicotto, Brady Clouthier, and Francois Cote were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
