Mitton leads Caledonia over Guelph, 7-3

Nate Mitton had one goal and two assists to lead the Caledonia Corvairs to a 7-3 victory over the Guelph Hurricanes.

Mitton scored 5:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Caledonia. Jeff Swift picked up the assist. Mitton dished an assist on Swift's goal that made the score 3-1 Caledonia at 16:12 into the first period. He added another helper on Mitch Brown's goal that made the score 7-3 Caledonia at 12:18 into the third period.

Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 29 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:27 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Corvairs forced Guelph's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 42 shots and forcing 35 saves. Quinton Henry made 28 stops and Josh Davies made seven. Caledonia's goal total was higher than its season average. The Corvairs have scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Caledonia additionally got points from Connor Murphy, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Swift, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Brown, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Brandon Montour, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Caledonia included Fabrizio Ricci and Tyler Norrie, who scored one goal each. More assists for Caledonia came via Matt Quilty, who had two and Ryan Blunt, Simon Blythe, and Steven Comegna, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 25 minutes in penalty time. Guelph surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Hurricanes were helped by Matt Lippa, who racked up one goal. Lippa scored 6:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Steven Domenichini provided the assist. Guelph also got points from Ian Chan, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Guelph also got a goal from Zach McFadden as well. In addition, Guelph received assists from Mike Wilkins and James Murray, who contributed one each.

Zach Easved recorded 20 saves for Caledonia. The Corvairs registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Caledonia, Justin Abraham, Blythe, and Dalton Riley were ejected from the contest. Guelph registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Team's Matt Nightingale, Craig Martini, McFadden, and Lippa were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
