London blows out Chatham, 6-1

The London Nationals were firing on all cylinders against the Chatham Maroons, and when the final buzzer sounded Nationals emerged with a 6-1 win.

London was led by Derek Todosichuk, who registered one goal and one assist. Todosichuk scored 8:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 London. Connor Allison provided the assist.

The Nationals forced Chatham's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 37 shots and forcing 31 saves. Darien Ekblad made 25 stops and Scott Tricker made six.

London additionally got points from Allison, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Blake Thomas, who also had one goal and one assist, and Keaton Ratcliffe, who also racked up one goal and one assist. London also got a goal from Jonathan Sims as well. Other players who recorded assists for London were Aaron Dartch, who had two and Paul Hopkins, Mark Gazdic, Scott Lombardi, and Chris Carreiro, who each chipped in one.

The Maroons could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Chatham averages 4.2 goals per game.

The Maroons were led by Michael Verboom, who scored the team's only goal. Verboom scored on the power play 8:40 into the first period to make the score 2-1 London. Chatham had taken the advantage when London's Matt Ross got sent off for slashing. Steven Szekesy assisted on the tally.

Taylor Edwards recorded 19 saves for the Nationals. London totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Nationals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Tuffin was ejected from the game. The Maroons totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For Chatham, Ethan Morrison was ejected from the game.
