Waterloo falls to Kitchener after surprising comeback

The Kitchener Dutchmen climbed out of a four-goal hole to beat the Waterloo Siskins, 9-7.

Kitchener let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a four hole to pick up the win. The Dutchmen took a 6-5 advantage on a goal by Keli Grant at 8:26 in the third period. Kitchener went down 5-1 after Waterloo's Ted Anstett put the puck home at 5:07 in the second period. After tying things up at 7-7 on a goal by Chris Eckert at 11:52 in the third, the Dutchmen got the game-winner from Brett Clampitt at 15:35 in the third period.

Kitchener outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Dutchmen average 4.3 goals per contest. Kitchener was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. The Dutchmen got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Kitchener additionally got points from Philip Moser, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Clampitt, who also tallied two goals and one assist, John Divo, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Eckert, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kitchener also got a goal from David Jennings as well. More assists for Kitchener came via Jesse Young, Matt Guild, Keegan Calder, Jordan Delaurier, and Steven Jakiela, who each chipped in one and Ryo Kobayashi, Dylan Bursey, and Matt Pappineau, who contributed two a piece.

The Siskins kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Marc Williams made 31 saves on 38 shots. Waterloo bested its season scoring average. The Siskins average 4.0 goals per game.

Waterloo was helped by Brandon Jones, who grabbed two goals. Jones scored the first of his two goals at 9:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo. Jones' next tally made the score 6-6 with 10:41 left in the third period. Eric Fischer picked up the assist. Waterloo also got points from Ryan Doucette, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Christian Mroczkowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Connor Voigt also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Adam Campagnolo, who had two and Trevor Atkinson APJ, Eric Cimino, and Stephen Witiuk, who each chipped in one.

The Dutchmen incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ty Learn was ejected from the game. PJ Bridges took the loss and made 12 saves before being replaced by Darren Huck who made eight saves. The Siskins incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
