Waterloo survives Listowel comeback, wins 5-3

The Waterloo Siskins came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Listowel Cyclones, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Waterloo led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Siskins' James Soper's scored short handed at 11:15 in the third period to put Waterloo up 4-1.

Stephen Witiuk had a great game for the Siskins, netting two goals. Witiuk found the back of the net 49 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Waterloo and again while 19:27 into the third to make the score 5-3 Waterloo.

Listowel was unable to stop Waterloo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Siskins eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Waterloo also got points from Adam Campagnolo, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Danny Hanlon also scored for Waterloo. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Ryan Doucette, who had two and Brandon Jones and Andrew Brubacher, who contributed one a piece.

The Cyclones put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Waterloo to score on any of its three power plays. Listowel forced the Siskins goalie PJ Bridges to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Cyclones were helped by Scott Pawson, who finished with one goal. Pawson scored 15:25 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Waterloo. Tanner Mighton provided the assist. Listowel also got a goal from Kyle Ellis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Caleb Cameron, Shawn Moore, Jacob Robitaille, and Ben Shelley, who each chipped in one.

Bridges rejected 33 shots on goal for Waterloo. The Siskins ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Waterloo, Matthew Mah was ejected from the game. Drew Reinhardt recorded 39 saves for Listowel. The Cyclones incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
