St. Catharines blows out Fort Erie, 7-1

The St. Catharines Falcons had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Fort Erie Meteors.

Mitch Bursey was all over the ice for St. Catharines, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Bursey scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:10 into the second period to make the score 2-0 St. Catharines. The Falcons had gotten the advantage when Fort Erie's Alex Untersberger was sent off for high sticking. Bursey's next tally on the power play made the score 7-1 St. Catharines with 3:03 left in the third period. St. Catharines had gained a power play chance when Jesse Parker was whistled for roughing. Greg Jambrosich assisted on the tally.

The Falcons' penalty kill excelled, as St. Catharines gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Falcons forced the Meteors' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 36 shots and forcing 29 saves. Wyatt Pickrell made 18 stops and Connor Visca made 11. St. Catharines stifled Fort Erie's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defensemen of the Falcons were also effective in the Meteors' zone, and came away with two goals.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Ben Walsh, who also had one goal and one assist, Jambrosich, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Andy Sturtz, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Jesse Miller also scored for St. Catharines. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Tyler Jackson, Julian Luciani, Mitch Bennett, and Luke Karaim, who each chipped in one and Jimmy Sheehan and Dan MacEachern, who contributed two a piece.

Fort Erie was held below its usual level of production. The Meteors average 3.2 goals per game. Fort Erie's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Meteors finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Jonathon D Ilario made 20 saves for St. Catharines on 21 shots. The Falcons incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
