St. Thomas squeaks by Strathroy, 5-3

The game between the St. Thomas Stars and the Strathroy Rockets was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end St. Thomas emerged with a 5-3 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Drew Collinson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Collinson was all over the ice for the Stars, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Collinson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:08 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. A tripping penalty on Tyler Coleman had put St. Thomas on the power play. Mike Iacocca assisted on the tally. Collinson's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 St. Thomas with 14:07 left in the third period. Iacocca provided the assist.

Strathroy was unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

St. Thomas also got points from Ryan Hamelin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Iacocca, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and Martin Kudla, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Cam Garrow, Colin Mooney, and Zack Anderson, who contributed one a piece.

The Rockets got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Strathroy was helped by Brett Dyck, who registered one goal. Dyck scored 11:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Strathroy. Tyler Duarte picked up the assist. Blake O`Neill also scored for Strathroy. More assists for Strathroy came via Shawn Grogan, Brett Dalton, Kurtis Sander, and Wes Baker, who each chipped in one.

The Stars' Luke Bierworth stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. St. Thomas incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Gordie Weiss made 35 saves for the Rockets on 40 shots. Strathroy incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
