Leamington beats London 3-2 after comeback scare

The London Nationals tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Leamington Flyers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Nathan Opblinger put Leamington up 3-0 in the second period, but London pulled to within one on Jonathan Sims' tally 6:06 into the third period.

The Flyers' penalty kill excelled, as Leamington gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Flyers' offense rang up 31 shots on the Nationals' net. Leamington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 29 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Flyers were helped by Joe Manchurek, who registered one goal and one assist. Manchurek scored 21 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Alex Seguin provided the assist. Leamington additionally got points from Opblinger, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Leamington also got a goal from Mitch Graham as well. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were David Dalby and Riley Babkirk, who each chipped in one.

Noah Schwartz also scored for London. More assists for London came via Ryan Wells, Blake Thomas, and Keaton Ratcliffe, who contributed one a piece.

Austyn Roudebush recorded 20 saves for Leamington. The Flyers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Leamington ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Troy Cox was ejected from the game. London's Taylor Edwards stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Nationals ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For London, Paxton Leroux was ejected from the game.
