Thorold blows out Buffalo, 11-4

The Thorold Blackhawks had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-4 win over the Buffalo Jr. Blades.

Tanner Pagendam was all over the ice for Thorold, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Pagendam scored the first of his two goals at 14:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Myles Falasca provided the assist. Pagendam's next tally made the score 9-3 Thorold with 18:01 left in the third period. Mackenzie Mac Avoy assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:41 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Blackhawks forced Buffalo goalie Ian Shorthouse to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots. Thorold bested its season scoring average. This season, the Blackhawks average 3.8 goals per contest. The defensemen of Thorold were also effective in the Jr. Blades' zone, and came away with two goals.

Thorold also got points from Brian Brosnan, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Kevin Lavoie, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Joel Forestell, who also registered one goal and two assists, Matthew Hoszko, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Falasca, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Mac Avoy, who also had one goal and two assists, and Joe DiBiasi, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Thorold also got a goal from Owen Sobchak as well. In addition, Thorold received assists from Dan Chudobiak, who had two, Vince Dunn, who had three, and Ed Creighton, Adrian Copeland, and Mark Arnone, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo outdid its season average for goals scored. The Jr. Blades average 1.5 goal per game.

Buffalo was helped by Nick Berst, who grabbed two goals. Berst scored the first of his two goals short handed at 17:19 into the second period to make the score 7-3 Thorold. A holding call on Dan DeFranco put the Jr. Blades on the penalty kill. Tom Hanna provided the assist. Berst's next tally short handed made the score 9-4 Thorold with 10:25 left in the third period. Buffalo had gained a power play chance when Hoszko was whistled for interference. Kennedy Monaco assisted on the tally. Buffalo additionally got points from Hanna, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hunter Conboy also scored for Buffalo. More assists for Buffalo came via Luke Maving, Josh Marr, Tyler Kessler, and Andrew Herrmann, who contributed one a piece.

Blake Richard recorded 21 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For the Blackhawks, Arnone was ejected from the game. The Jr. Blades' Shorthouse stopped 45 shots out of the 56 that he faced. Buffalo totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Jr. Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Gordon was ejected from the game.
