Kuchmey leads Strathroy to shutout victory over London

Dalen Kuchmey recorded a shutout against the London Nationals as the Strathroy Rockets picked up a 2-0 win.

Strathroy pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 34 penalty minutes.

The Rockets were led by Tyler Duarte, who grabbed one goal. Duarte scored 1:35 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy. Ryan Field picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:40 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Strathroy's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven London power plays. The Rockets featured an improved defense during the game. Strathroy averages 2.8 goals allowed per game. The Rockets forced London goalie Taylor Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Tyler Coleman also scored for Strathroy. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Micheal Woolley, Shawn Grogan, and Trevor Dulong, who each chipped in one.

The the Nationals penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 31.0 minutes per game London had been spending in the box. The Nationals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. London did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Nationals put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. London kept Strathroy's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kuchmey made 35 saves on 35 shots.

Team's Woolley and Grogan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Edwards rejected 31 shots on goal for the Nationals. For London, Lance Pridham and Scott Lombardi were ejected from the contest.
