Cambridge wins tough contest against Kitchener, 4-2

The Cambridge Winter Hawks gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Kitchener Dutchmen.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Cody Gratton at 13:52 of the third period.

Cambridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 17 penalty minutes.

The Winter Hawks were led by Gratton, who finished with one goal and one assist.

Cambridge kept Kitchener's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jack Moylan made 29 saves on 33 shots. The defensemen of the Winter Hawks were also effective in the Dutchmen's zone, and came away with two goals.

Cambridge also got points from Todd Bannermon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Andrew Coupland as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cambridge were Maxime Lamontagne and Brennon Pearce, who contributed one a piece and Brandon Plourde and Alex Bottigoni, who each chipped in two.

Kitchener was led by Dylan Bursey, who racked up one goal and one assist. Bursey scored 19:44 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Hoffman provided the assist. Ryo Kobayashi also scored for Kitchener. More assists for Kitchener came via Philip Moser and Keli Grant, who contributed one a piece.

Lucas Machalski made 24 saves for Cambridge on 26 shots. The Winter Hawks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Cambridge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Plourde was ejected from the game. The Dutchmen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
